Sustainability Tools

The Sustainability Tools section of the STAR-T Alliance Platform is designed to help tourism businesses understand, improve and showcase their sustainability performance. It brings together practical digital tools, good-practice content and the STAR-T certification and recognition mechanisms in one place.

Through this section, users can assess their sustainability performance, learn from practical examples, share their own good practices and follow the STAR-T certification and awards process.

Self-Assessment

The Self-Assessment tool will enable registered companies to review their sustainability performance through a structured set of sustainability questions. The digital tool will provide automatic scoring, display the result for the individual company and allow a report output to be generated.

The purpose of the tool is to support self-reflection and help tourism businesses identify areas in which their practices can be strengthened. It also complements the self-learning and capacity-building components of the STAR-T Project.

The Self-Assessment area will provide:

  • Sustainability assessment questions
  • Automatic scoring
  • Company-specific results
  • A report output for the completed assessment

Best Practices

The Best Practices section will present practical examples of sustainable tourism approaches and solutions. Its purpose is to make successful experiences visible, support peer learning and inspire tourism businesses to adopt practices that can improve environmental responsibility and business resilience.

Best-practice content developed or collected through STAR-T activities will be made available on the platform. The project documentation also foresees five best-practice packages as part of the platform content.

Users will be able to explore examples related to sustainable tourism and learn from experiences shared through the STAR-T network.

Share Your Best Practice

Registered companies will be able to submit their own good-practice examples through a dedicated sharing form. This function is intended to encourage businesses to contribute actively to the STAR-T knowledge-sharing network and to make practical sustainability experiences visible to other users.

The submission area will allow companies to:

  • Describe their good-practice example
  • Upload photographs
  • Upload supporting documents
  • Submit the content for administrator review and approval

Approved good-practice examples may then be published on the platform, creating a growing collection of practical sustainability experiences from STAR-T participants.

Certification System

The STAR-T Alliance Certification System is designed to recognize tourism operators that adopt sustainable practices and to encourage further investment in environmentally responsible business operations.

The certification system will include sustainability standards and criteria, an assessment framework and process, key documentation and a transnational jury. The partner Chambers will contribute to defining and promoting the system and to implementing the assessment process in their regions.

The STAR-T Project foresees certificates for 50 tourism SMEs. The certification system aims to:

  • Provide formal recognition for businesses committed to sustainable practices
  • Encourage continuous improvement in sustainability performance
  • Create a recognizable local framework for sustainable tourism operators
  • Increase the visibility and credibility of participating businesses

Awards

The Awards section will highlight and celebrate outstanding sustainability efforts among participating SMEs. The project foresees an awarding/certification ceremony as part of the STAR-T Certification System.

Awards are intended to recognize businesses, teams or organisations that demonstrate strong performance, innovation or commitment in line with the sustainability objectives of STAR-T. The recognition process will help increase the visibility of successful examples and motivate wider adoption of sustainable practices.

Award and certification results can be showcased on the platform after the relevant assessment and recognition processes are completed.

From Assessment to Recognition

Together, the STAR-T Sustainability Tools create a pathway from learning and self-assessment to good-practice sharing, certification and recognition. This integrated approach is intended to help tourism businesses turn sustainability knowledge into practical action and make successful efforts visible across the STAR-T network.
